Institutional Investment Health & Retirement Conference 2014 19-20 June, 2014 - Singapore
The theme of the Singapore Actuarial Society's annual conference on Health and Retirement in Singapore, is “Peace of Mind for Today & Tomorrow”.

On the first day, papers will be focused on the issues of rising healthcare costs, aging demographics and the increasing need for retirement financing. On the second day, the conference will be split into 2 parallel specialist tracks allowing participants a choice to cover either healthcare or retirement issues.

Among the distinguished speakers at the event will be Frédéric Ducoulombier, Director, EDHEC Risk Institute—Asia, who will be participating in a panel discussion in the retirement track as part of the second day's "Securing Health and Retirement in the Future" topics. He will also be delivering the closing presentation entitled, "Next-generation life cycle funds, options for Singapore and recommendations":

EDHEC-Risk Institute has been advancing research on asset-liability management for close to ten years and applying insights to the management of pension schemes and sovereign-wealth funds and to the design of wealth management as well as retail individual retirement solutions. This presentation describes the state of the art in long-term investing, whereby a dynamic asset-liability management model allows for the optimal combination of three investment paradigms: liability-driven investment (accounting for liabilities and separating performance seeking and risk hedging), life-cycle investing (recognising long horizon and adopting a time- and state-dependent policy portfolio strategy) and risk-controlled investing (respecting short-term constraints such as maximum drawdown). It then explains how the next generation of lifecycle funds can be based on a mass-customised application of the above principles and introduces various ways to introduce such welfare-enhancing approaches to Singapore. In its final part, the presentation focuses on the common denominator in the possible scenarios and recommends a three-pronged approach to supporting the emergence and development of suitable retirement solutions in Singapore based on the standardisation of reporting of lifecycle retirement solutions, a credible certification scheme and benchmarking.
