Commodities World Commodities Week 2010 5-7 October, 2010 - London, United Kingdom The 6th annual World Commodities Week conference, discussing commodity trading, commodity futures and commodity funds.

World Commodities Week provides a comprehensive picture of today’s commodities markets including commodity trading, commodity futures and commodity funds.

Key topics to be discussed in this year's edition include:
  • Understanding the macroeconomic and geopolitical factors that will shape commodity markets for years to come – learning how your portfolio can benefit from global trends.

  • Formulating how you can successfully incorporate commodities into your portfolio.

  • Discerning the strength of commodities as a source of alpha, beta and as an inflation hedge.

  • Discovering how changing regulation and position limits will affect commodity markets - what will the consequences be for your investments?

  • Finding-out where oil prices are heading.

  • Determining China’s influence on commodity markets and how can you ensure you benefit.

  • Deciding where the best returns can really be found in energy, metals and agri.

  • Devising sophisticated techniques to manage risk and overcome price volatility.
On 6 October at 2.30 pm, Dr. Bernd Scherer, Professor of Finance at EDHEC Business School, and a member of EDHEC-Risk Institute, will be making a presentation at the event entitled, "Choosing the right exposures to successfully hedge against inflation and overcome price volatility" in which he will be covering the following issues:
  • The effects of global and regional inflation and the need to have effective hedging strategies in place
  • Constructing a pension fund inflation hedging strategy utilising commodities – methodology and challenges?
  • What other allocations should pension funds consider to enhance their investments whilst still protecting against inflation?
  • Should investors be increasingly focusing investments on their local commodity markets rather than internationally in order to most effectively hedge against inflation?
