Indexes & Benchmarking EDHEC-Risk European Index Survey 2011: Press Presentation 11 October, 2011 - London, United Kingdom
Exclusive presentation to the press of the results of a European survey on the use of equity and bond indices by institutional investors

As the choice of an index is a crucial step in both asset allocation and performance measurement, it is useful to investigate index use and perceptions about indices. In a new survey which elicited responses from 104 European institutional investment professionals, EDHEC-Risk Institute has analysed the current uses of and opinions on equity and fixed-income indices. Among the the subjects addressed by the survey are:
  • The relative merits of buy-and-hold attributes, transparency, liquidity and objectivity
  • The confusion between indexing and passive investing
  • The relative importance of sub-segment and broad market indices
  • The specific concerns of equity index and fixed-income index users
  • The adoption of alternative index weighting schemes
At a special press presentation to be held in London on October 11, 2011, Noël Amenc, Professor of Finance at EDHEC Business School, and Director of EDHEC-Risk Institute, will be presenting this survey and analysing the current uses of and opinions on stock and bond indices in order to provide unique insight into the user’s perspective in the index industry:
  • What objectives lie behind the use of indices?
  • What are the problems associated with current indices?
  • How should indices be constructed to fulfil investors’ needs?

The presentation is strictly reserved for members of the press and is by invitation only.
