Performance The IPE Awards 2004 30th November, 2004 - Zurich, Switzerland

An annual event that sets the industry benchmark for excellence in the management of Europe’s pension funds.

Launched in 2001 by Investment & Pensions Europe, the IPE Awards recognise and reward the hard work and creative thinking of both the pension funds and their executives.

This annual gathering of pensions professionals has now become the event of the year for everyone involved in Europe's pensions industry.

This year, the Edhec Risk and Asset Management Research Centre will be involved in the event.

Agenda

13.30 - 17.30
Seminar

– Panel Discussion:
  • Is it possible to deliver pension promises and meet expectations of members and the wider public in current conditions? Are any changes needed?
  • Are pension regulators focusing on the right areas when it comes to monitoring and supervising pensions funds? How could they do it better?
  • Is liability management the path to financial rectitude? Will it be key to keeping the industry from repeating its mistakes?
  • Should pension funds bite the bullet and forget about solidarity and mutuality and become commercial, self-sufficient deliverers of pension services?
  • Can alternatives, structured products, derivatives and other departures from traditional investment really deliver in a way that our regular asset classes cannot? Are investors’ expectations unrealistic?
  • There has been a lot of focus on pensions governance, what do you think is the best way to run a pensions provider?
  • Are countries coming closer together or going further apart when it comes to retirement income provision in Europe? With huge pensions deficits ahead in some countries, how close do we want to become?
  • Where do you think it is that pensions people get it right and how can that message be best brought across?
