Alternative Investments Hedge Funds Seminar 18th & 19th March 2004 - Vienna, Austria

A private meeting for family offices, significant private investors and their close advisors

The Hedge Fund Seminar is an in-depth meeting to assess the risks and rewards of hedge fund investing from a family perspective.

Hedge funds have provided many investors with excellent and sustained returns over a period of stock market decline and volatility. Many family offices now have significant, 30%-plus allocations to this asset class. As interest in hedge funds has exploded so the number of hedge funds has increased exponentially. Some developments have moved in the investor’s favour. Transparency is improving in the industry, more investor-friendly regulatory systems are being put in place, and favourable tax law changes in a number of European countries are rendering hedge funds an increasingly attractive investment option. However, the enormous growth of the hedge fund industry has created new problems such as too many managers, many of doubtful quality, chasing too few opportunities. On top of these issues, the same risks remain of choosing the right hedge fund strategy and, most importantly, the right manager.

The third annual Hedge Fund Seminar will bring together leading hedge fund specialists, investors, managers and analysts to share their knowledge and experiences of key areas such as manager selection, risk management, and portfolio construction, so helping investors maximise opportunity in the hedge fund market.

Topics covered at the Hedge Fund meeting include:

  • Choosing the right benchmarking index
  • Behavioural finance & model trading
  • Manager selection panel discussion
  • Transparency – risk management
  • Impact of regulatory change
  • Tax – fiscal efficiency & life insurance
  • Portfolio construction workshop
Noël Amenc, Professor of Finance at Edhec, will be making a presentation on hedge fund investment trends at the event. View full programme (pdf).
