EDHEC Hedge Fund Days 2006

The EDHEC Hedge Fund Days 2006, which were held at The Brewery in London from February 14-16, were a major success, bringing together more than 1,000 people in total, including institutional investors and their advisors, hedge fund and fund of hedge funds managers, and other practitioners with an interest in alternative strategies and institutional investment. From originally being one of the only events in Europe organised by an academic research centre for the benefit of professionals, the EDHEC Hedge Fund Days are now quite simply one of the largest and most prestigious events on the hedge fund calendar.

The main two-day conference on February 15-16 was preceded by the EDHEC Institutional Investor Summit on February 14, which was exclusively reserved for institutional investors. This exclusive pre-conference event was a unique opportunity to explore the various EDHEC research programmes that are directly of interest to pension schemes and other final investors. The summit was notable for the unveiling of the results of the EDHEC European Alternative Diversification Practices Survey and the presentation of a study on the use of hedge funds in asset-liability-management.

The main conference included presentations of new EDHEC research on the determinants of fund of hedge fund performance; EDHEC's recommendations on fund of hedge fund reporting; a major study on mitigating hedge funds' operational risks; a research paper on adding value to hedge fund investments through active style allocation decisions; and the results of an EDHEC study on the existence or otherwise of a capacity effect in the hedge fund industry.

EDHEC was joined at the conference by platinum sponsors Man Investments, Lyxor AM, Unigestion, Fortis, Invesdex and SG AM Alternative Investments; gold sponsors Alteram, Citigroup, Euronext.liffe, Riskdata, EIM and GAM; and exhibitors Monakea, Indexchange, Factset, Nordea, AlternativeSoft, Fortis PFS and BNP Paribas Securities Services.

Media partners IPE, The Hedge Fund Journal, AIQ, Hedge Funds Review, Opalesque, epn, PWM, FT Mandate and Funds Europe also greatly contributed to the success of the event.

At the closing session of the conference, NoŽl Amenc, director of the EDHEC Risk and Asset Management Research Centre, announced that forthcoming EDHEC events for finance professionals will include a two-day EDHEC ETF Summit in November 2006 in Paris and an EDHEC conference for private banking and wealth management in Geneva in March 2007.
