Two EDHEC students win the French Society of Financial Analysts (SFAF) prize in the International Competition of Master Degree Theses on Economics and Finance

The competition, organised by the Centre des Professions Financières, rewards the best theses at Master 1 or 2 level that deal with subjects in the financial analysis, insurance, banking, stock market, economics, corporate finance or asset management fields.

As a long-standing partner of the competition, the French Society of Financial Analysts (SFAF) awards a prize to the best thesis on finance.

This year’s recipients were EDHEC students Sylvain Bourrat, an auditor with KPMG in Paris, and Guillaume Wolff, an investment banking analyst with Deutsche Bank in London, who were handed the prize for Best Thesis on Economics and Finance in Paris on 5 June, 2014.

The two 2013 graduates of the EDHEC Financial Economics track and final-year students on the MSc in Corporate Finance focused their thesis on a subject of ongoing debate, namely the impact of private equity funds on the performance of companies over which they exert a significant influence, entitled “Underpricing & Long‐Term Performance of Private‐Equity Backed IPOs compared to Non‐Private‐Equity Backed IPOs: A French perspective”.

Professor Florencio Lopez-de-Silanes, Professor of Finance at EDHEC Business School and member of EDHEC-Risk Institute, assisted the students in writing their thesis and supported them during the competition. He commented, “I am honoured to have worked with these two amazing students who brought the SFAF prize to EDHEC for the first time in 30 years. For the faculty at EDHEC, this prize is also a strong endorsement of our efforts to raise academic standards and the success of our ‘EDHEC for Business’ research strategy.”
