PhD in Finance faculty strengthened

Professor Allan Timmermann

Professor Timmermann is a Professor of Finance at the Rady School of Management of the University of California, San Diego, where he also holds an appointment in the Department of Economics. He has held visiting scholar or professor positions at Stanford University, the International Monetary Fund, the Board of the United States Federal Reserve and at the London School of Economics.

His research focuses on the behaviour of prices and expectations in financial markets with applications to risk management, portfolio construction, performance evaluation, and forecasting. He is noted for having developed new approaches to forecasting under structural breaks, forecast combinations and evaluation of predictive skills.

He has published widely in such journals as Journal of American Statistical Association, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Finance and Review of Economic Studies. He serves as associate editor of Econometrics Journal, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, Journal of Applied Econometrics and Journal of Financial Econometrics. He is also on the editorial board of Annals of Finance and Journal of Asset Management.

Professor Timmermann has received multiple grants and awards for his research work and he has also been distinguished for teaching excellence.

He will deliver an elective seminar on Markov Switching Models in Europe in 2014.

Professor Timmermann strengthens an exceptional team of international scholars that brings together eleven senior economics and finance scholars drawn from the EDHEC Business School faculty and twenty-one affiliate professors from foremost research institutions around the world. These scholars design and deliver core and elective PhD in Finance courses and act as dissertation advisers to PhD candidates.

The objective of the PhD in Finance at EDHEC-Risk Institute is to help outstanding individuals become autonomous researchers by enabling them to develop the scientific background and skills required to research projects that advance knowledge and practices in the financial industry. It is formatted to allow the participation of high-level practitioners who keep their full-time jobs while doing their doctoral studies. The programme is offered in Asia, from Singapore and in Europe, from London and Nice.

The next deadline for application (executive or residential tracks) is 17 December, 2012 (Asian programme starting in February 2013 and European programme starting in October 2013).
