PhD in Finance faculty strengthened

EDHEC-Risk Institute is delighted to report that Professor Vikas Argawal of Georgia State University and Professor Michael Brandt of Duke University have joined the affiliate faculty of the EDHEC-Risk Institute PhD in Finance programme.

Professor Agarwal’s research interests encompass investments and asset pricing and his current work focuses on various issues related to hedge funds including risk and performance analysis, determinants of fund flows, impact of managerial incentives on performance, and portfolio disclosure. He has published in leading journals including Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Review of Financial Studies.

Professor Brandt’s current research work focuses on quantitative portfolio management, risk management, currency and fixed income markets, and financial econometrics. He has published widely in such journals as American Economic Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Monetary Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. He serves as co-editor of the Review of Finance and as associate editor of the Journal of Finance.

Professor Agarwal will deliver an elective on hedge funds in Singapore in March 2013 and Professor Brandt will teach an elective on portfolio allocation in London in January 2013. They strengthen an exceptional team of international scholars that brings together eleven senior economics and finance scholars drawn from the EDHEC Business School faculty and twenty one affiliate professors from foremost research institutions.

The purpose of the PhD in Finance programme at EDHEC-Risk Institute is to help outstanding individuals become autonomous researchers by enabling them to develop the scientific background and skills required to conduct research projects that advance knowledge and practices in the financial industry. It is formatted to allow the participation of high-level practitioners who keep their full-time jobs while doing their doctoral studies. These practitioners make up ninety percent of the Institute’s doctoral student body.
