Three new distinguished experts appointed to EDHEC-Risk Institute’s International Advisory Board

EDHEC-Risk Institute is pleased to announce that three new members have joined its International Advisory Board:

  • Mr. Tomas Franzén, Chief Investment Strategist, AP2 - Andra AP-fonden
  • Mr. Jaap van Dam, Managing Director Investment Strategy, PGGM
  • Mr. Stuart Lewis, Chief Credit Officer and Deputy Chief Risk Officer, Deutsche Bank

The 40 members of the advisory board, which brings together representatives from regulatory bodies, leading pension funds, professional organisations, and business partners, advise on the relevance and goals of the research programme proposals presented by the Institute’s management and evaluate research outcomes with respect to their potential impact on industry practices.

The board also advises on the objectives and contents of projects deriving from the expertise of the Institute, thereby ensuring that graduate and executive programmes remain at the forefront of developments in the marketplace.




About the new members:


Mr. Tomas Franzén, Chief Investment Strategist, AP2 - Andra AP-fonden

Tomas Franzén currently holds a position as Chief Investment Strategist at the Second Swedish National Pension Fund – AP2, in Gothenburg. AP2 is one of four buffer-funds within the recently reformed Swedish national pay-as-you-go pension system. As Chief Investment Strategist, Tomas is responsible for issues related to Investment Policy and Strategic Asset Allocation. AP2 has USD 30bn in assets under management invested in a broad-based global portfolio of public and private assets. Tomas is a member of the Executive Committee at AP2.

Before joining AP2 at the start-up in 2001, Tomas, between 1998-2001, held a position as Chief Strategist at Swedbank Markets, advising the banks’ Swedish and global clients on equity investments. Prior to that, he was Chief Strategist at Den Norske Bank between 1996-1998. During 1986-1996, he served as a senior economist at Svenska Handelsbanken in Stockholm. In the early 80’s, Tomas held a position as Economist at the Swedish Employers’ Confederation.

Tomas holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Stockholm, Sweden. He is also a holder of CEFA (Certified EFFAS Financial Analyst). Tomas is furthermore a member of the Executive Faculty at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg and an Editorial Advisory Board member of the Journal of Pension Management at ICPM in Toronto.




Mr. Jaap van Dam, Managing Director Investment Strategy, PGGM

As Managing Director Strategy, Jaap van Dam is responsible for the Strategic Asset Allocation and the Investment Plan for the clients of PGGM Investments. He is member of the ALM, Investment and Allocation Committees of PGGM Investments and member of the Front Office Management Team.

Jaap is a member of the ICPM Research Committee and the Investment Board of the Dutch Society of Industry Pension funds (VB).

After graduating in 1987 from Rotterdam Erasmus University, where he studied Finance, Jaap joined Algemene Bank Nederland (later ABN AMRO Bank). In 1990 he moved to Bank Mees & Hope (later MeesPierson) holding various positions including Head of Funds Research. From 1999 until 2004 he was responsible for Portfolio Construction, Manager Selection and Risk Budgeting with VermogensGroep as Head of Research and CIO.

Jaap started at PGGM Investments in 2005 as Head of Inhouse Equities. In 2006 he was appointed Chief Strategist.




Mr. Stuart Lewis, Chief Credit Officer and Deputy Chief Risk Officer, Deutsche Bank

Stuart Lewis was appointed Chief Credit Officer and Deputy Chief Risk Officer in December 2006. He joined Deutsche Bank in June 1996. Before assuming his current function, Stuart held the role of Global Head of Loan Exposure Management Group (LEMG) since July 2005. Prior to that, from July 2003, Stuart headed the European function of LEMG. Stuart's history with Deutsche Bank includes the roles of Deputy Chief Credit Officer of CIB within Credit Risk Management and a member of the Group Risk Committee. Stuart has previously been Chief Credit Officer for Asia and a member of the Bank's Group Credit Committee from 1996 to 1998.

Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, he was Head of European Credit Risk Management at Credit Suisse Financial Products, where he worked for 4 years. Previously, he worked in leveraged finance origination at Continental Illinois National Bank in London.

Stuart attended the University of Dundee, where he obtained an LLB (Hons) and holds an LLM from the London School of Economics. He also attended the College of Law, Guildford where he passed the Law Society Finals Examinations.
